There are no signs that other federal agencies were affected by the cyberattack that targeted the Treasury Department. China has refuted claims that it violated the U.S. Treasury Department.
In 2024, there were 906 reports of cyber incidents against public and private sector organizations, compared to 752 in
2023.
BeyondTrust stated that "no new customers have been identified beyond those we have communicated with previously" in a statement released on January 6,

According to a recent report by Bloomberg, the Chinese state-sponsored threat group known as APT41 gained access to the executive branch of the Philippine government and stole confidential information about South China Sea disputes. The events also come after Taiwan's National Security Bureau (NSB) released a report alerting Taiwan to the growing sophistication of Chinese-planned cyberattacks. The method usually involves using living-off-the-land (LotL) techniques and taking advantage of vulnerabilities in Netcom devices.
China's influence operations against Taiwan have been denounced by the NSB. China has run misinformation campaigns aimed at eroding public trust in the government. One of the most notable strategies is the widespread use of fake accounts to flood comment sections on social media sites where Taiwanese people share meme images and edited videos.
It has also been discovered that malicious cyber activities take over Taiwanese users' social media accounts in order to propagate false information. According to the NSB, "China has been using deepfake technology to fabricate video clips of Taiwanese political figures' speeches, attempting to mislead the Taiwanese public's perception and understanding." Additionally, according to the NSB, China actively creates convergence media brands or proxy accounts on social media sites like Weibo, TikTok, and Instagram in order to disseminate official media content and propaganda with a Taiwanese focus. "China has conducted reconnaissance, set up cyber ambushes, and stolen data through hacking operations targeting Taiwan's government, critical infrastructure, and key private enterprises by applying diverse hacking techniques," the report stated.
