The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said on Friday that hackers linked to Russian intelligence services are running phishing campaigns to break into commercial messaging apps (CMAs) like WhatsApp and Signal in order to take over the accounts of people with high intelligence value. FBI Director Kash Patel said in a post on X, "The campaign targets people with high intelligence value, including current and former U.S. government officials, military personnel, political figures, and journalists." "Globally, this effort has led to unauthorized access to thousands of individual accounts."
We also want to make it clear that Signal Support will *never* contact you through in-app messages, SMS, or social media to ask for your verification code or PIN.
"It's a scam if someone asks for any code related to Signal."
