Microsoft has said that its new External Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) feature in Microsoft Entra ID is now available to everyone. The feature gets rid of old limits by letting companies use third-party MFA providers while still following Microsoft's Conditional Access and risk-based security rules. Along with the release of External MFA, the older "Custom Controls" feature will also be phased out.
This is set to happen on September 30, 2026. The new feature is now available all over the world. Companies can start adding external MFA providers through Microsoft Entrra's configuration tools and Microsoft Learn's documentation.
