All advisory committee memberships have been terminated by the Department of Homeland Security. Members of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency's (CISA) Cyber Safety Review Board are among them. Last year, the board published a harsh report criticizing Microsoft for a "cascade" of preventable mistakes that allowed Storm-0558, a nation-state group based in China, to exploit its infrastructure.

The Biden administration's executive order on artificial intelligence (AI) safety, which promoted the technology's safe, secure, and reliable development and application, has also been revoked by U.S. President Donald Trump. Senator Ron Wyden wrote on the security news website Bluesky, "Killing the board that pressured Microsoft to up its cybersecurity looks for all the world like payback for Microsoft's million dollar gift to Donald Trump's inaugural committee." The Artificial Intelligence Safety and Security Board, Critical Infrastructure Partnership Advisory Council, National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee, National Infrastructure Advisory Council, and USSS Cyber Investigations Advisory Board are among the other advisory boards that have been dissolved.

In a blog post regarding the decision to cancel the advisory boards' memberships on January 20, 2025, Senator Wyden wrote, "This is a massive gift to the Chinese spies who targeted top political figures," in a memo to DHS Acting Secretary Benjamine C. Huffman. "Our vital mission to protect the homeland will be the only focus of future committee activities," he declared.
