The Ericsson Data Breach A Swedish telecommunications multinational's U.S. subsidiary has revealed a data breach that put the personal information of employees and customers at risk. The event did not happen on Ericsson's own network; instead, it was aimed at one of the company's third-party service providers. The letter about the breach says that the unauthorized access happened over a five-day period from April 17, 2025, to April 22, 2025.
Data Breach at Ericsson The service provider that was hacked first noticed the strange network activity on April 28, 2025. Reports from outside sources say that the breach happened because of a "vishing" (voice phishing) attack, in which hackers used a phone-based social engineering scam to get into the account of a vendor employee.
After the discovery, the service provider quickly started an investigation and hired outside cybersecurity forensics experts to find out how big the breach was. The full review process took a few months because the data was so complicated. On February 23, 2026, investigators officially finished their review and confirmed that files with Ericsson's private information were accessed.
The breach affected a total of 15,661 people. The notification letter mostly talks about names being exposed, but regulatory filings show that more data has been compromised.
The information that was stolen could include: Addresses for Social Security Numbers IDs given out by the government Information about financial accounts Records of medical care Birthdays Ericsson and its vendor were happy to say that there is currently no evidence that the stolen information has been used in the wild since the breach. After the security breach, the service provider that was affected took a number of important steps to protect its infrastructure and lower the risk of more problems.
