Microsoft has released an important Setup Dynamic Update called KB5081494 for Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2. The technology sector has a big deadline coming up very soon, which is why this dynamic update is so important. The Secure Boot certificates built into Windows systems will start to expire in June 2026, after 15 years of use.
If you don't update your devices, they won't be able to install Secure Boot security updates after June 20, 2026. This includes Windows 10, Windows 11, Windows Server 2016 through 2025, and systems that go back to 2012. In the worst case, systems that haven't been patched may not boot securely, which would cause major problems for both businesses and consumers.
The Secure Boot playbook lays out a four-step process: inventory, monitoring, OEM firmware updates, and certificate deployment. These steps should be done using tools like Microsoft Intune, Group Policy, or registry keys to make sure the whole infrastructure is ready by the 2026 deadline. The Safe OS Dynamic Update KB5083482 is specifically for improving the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) and fixing a problem that stopped x64 apps from running in emulation on ARM64 in WinRE.
Both updates are sent out through regular Windows Update channels, and eligible devices are set up to automatically download and install them. There are no requirements for applying KB508 1494, and the system does not need to be restarted, which makes it much easier for active users. It replaces and completely replaces the KB5079271 update that came out before it. It is also meant to be very automated.
